Video: Why Rabbi Matondo is viewed as Man United’s Jadon Sancho alternative

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will need to prepare for the possibility of missing out on top target Jadon Sancho this summer.

Borussia Dortmund starlet Sancho is viewed as the perfect solution to the lack of balance on the right-flank and has established himself as a superstar since leaving Man City in 2017.

But a player of Sancho’s proficiency comes at a high price and there are is uncertainty that large transfer fees with be exchanged during this unprecedented summer window.

Therefore, United must keep an eye on more attainable options and have reportedly identified another explosive young City academy graduate as a transfer alternative.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, 19-year-old FC Shalke Rabbi Matondo is being monitored by the club and would be interested in a switch to Old Trafford.

Welsh international Matondo has established himself as a regular within David Wagner’s Shalke first-team squad, making 14 appearances in all competitions this turn.

Rather like his compatriot Daniel James, Matondo boasts lightning pace which he utilities as the main asset in his game. The youngster can play anywhere across the forward line and is direct when in possession.

Of course, Matondo is not quite as exciting a prospect as the superb Sancho, but he certainly has potential and would fit Solskjaer’s recruitment criteria of young, British talent.
