Rio Ferdinand has named the three players he would sign this summer if he was in charge at Manchester United.
United are finally heading in the right direction under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer but new additions are needed as the Norwegian begins to shape his rebuild.
The areas that still need addressing have been made pretty clear for United fans this season, with right-wing a position of paramount importance.
Ferdinand unsurprisingly has opted for Borussia Dortmund starlet Jadon Sancho to fill the void on the right-flank.
But the United great also believes the club require another centre-back and has named a potential wildcard as a younger option for Solskjaer.
“Every week this changes,” he told The Beautiful Game podcast. “I’d definitely buy Sancho. Can you imagine Sancho in that team? He draws two or three players to him and [Marcus] Rashford’s playing one-v-one? Oh God, it’s over.
“I would maybe go and get Partey from Atletico Madrid or [Wilfred] Ndidi from Leicester, I like Saul Niguez, he’s a very, very good player in midfield. And I do still think they need a centre-back.
“Whether you go for a young one, like Ben Godfrey, or go for someone like Koulibaly, I don’t know, it’s difficult.”
Thomas Partey, Wilfred Ndidi and Saul Niguez are all elite central midfielders that would represent huge coups for the Solskjaer. .
Koulibaly has established himself as a world-class central defender during his six years at Napoli and would immediately slot in alongside captain Harry Maguire.
Ben Godfrey, meanwhile, has been one of the shining lights for Norwich City this season and has previously captained the England u21 side.
But Manchester Evening News report that the United boss is currently content with his options at the back and is focusing on strengthening in other areas this summer.
