Man United missed chance to sign one of best young goalkeepers on free transfer

Manchester United reportedly could have signed AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma for free.

Donnarumma is widely regarded one of the best young shot-stoppers in the world and has been tipped for a move to United’s rivals Chelsea this summer with Frank Lampard seeking a new number one.

The 21-year-old is a client of Mino Raiola and it has been revealed that the notorious super agent could have moved him on from Milan for nothing.

“I have always worked well with Raiola. He has taken very rich commissions, but with me he has always behaved correctly,” Milan CEO Adriano Galliani told MilanNews, as quoted by Manchester Evening News.

“Raiola had the chance to take Gigio away from Milan to zero Lire twice.”

MilanNews report that United and Ajax were the two clubs touted to sign the Italian before he had even made his first-team debut.

Fortunately, the Reds are coping pretty well in the goalkeeper department and have not been left to rue missing out on the talented Donnarumma.

In Dean Henderson, United have another of the brightest goalkeeping talents in world football who could be number one at Old Trafford for a number of years.

But the 23-year-old may need to have another successful loan spell elsewhere before taking the reigns from David De Gea.
