Video: Van Persie says Man United shirt was more ‘special’ than Arsenal one

Robin van Persie left Arsenal for Manchester United. Even though his spell at Old Trafford only lasted three years, it was undoubtedly the best period of his career.

After narrowly missing out on the league title due to goal difference the previous season, Sir Alex Ferguson sniffed out the opportunity to sign Arsenal captain Robin van Persie because he knew the striker had enough of mediocrity and wanted to add some proper silverware to his CV.

Van Persie’s influence on the pitch that season was huge, as United won an unprecedented 20th English top-flight title with a win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford, in which he scored a hat-trick and finished the season with 26 league goals and 30 goals in all competitions.

The Dutchman recently revealed that he was left disappointed when Ferguson retired a year later, after being promised that was not his plan, and he would manage the Reds for longer.

At Arsenal, where Robin spent eight years, he won just one FA Cup.

At least he’s loved in Manchester!
