Solskjaer provides fresh contract update on Man Utd youngster Angel Gomes

Ole Gunner Solskjaer has confirmed that Manchester United are looking to negotiate a new contract with academy graduate Angel Gomes.

It came as a surprise when Tahith Chong recently committed his future to United by signing a three-year deal and now the focus appears to have switched towards Gomes, who we haven’t seen a lot of this season.

Speaking in his press conference on Wednesday — ahead of United’s Europa League clash against LASK — Solskjaer was pleased with the contract extension for the young Dutchman and believes he has the ability to become a very good player.

He added that the Red Devils will try to negotiate a new deal with Gomes, who will be out of contract in the summer and free to move on for free.

“With Tahith, we’re very happy that he can see his future here and we can see a very good player there and we’ll give him time that he needs to develop. That’s the same with Angel, we hope that we can convince him that both in the near future and the long future, he’s a Man United player,” Solskjaer said (via ManUtd.com).

Both youngsters have struggled to get regular game time under Solskjaer this season and it looked like they would be going through the exit door this summer.

Something has changed and Solskjaer is now in charge of a happier bunch of footballers.

Chong has committed his future to the club and now we wait patiently for Gomes to do the same.

They would both benefit from loan moves next season.

United are in Europa League action later on and we wouldn’t be surprised if Chong made the bench after putting pen to paper just last week.
