It has been confirmed by the club’s official website that Tahith Chong has signed a new contract, which will keep him at Manchester United until 2022, with the option to extend for a further year.
The Dutch youngster’s previous contract was set to expire this summer and there had been reports that suggest the he was in talks with Italian clubs such as Inter Milan and Juventus, as per Bleacher Report.
Along with that were claims that Chong’s representatives did not feel the offer on the table from United was good enough, even though he’s yet to make an impression in the first team.
However, Chongy has decided to commit his future to United and we are delighted with the news.
Although he has yet to make a real impression in the first team, Chong has got lots of ability and could benefit from a season long loan, where he will get games and be able to show his gift.
It’s going to be harder to get into this United team next season and the experience will do him good.
After signing his new deal, Chong said: “When I joined Manchester United as a youngster, it was a dream come true. It is an honour every time I pull on the shirt and represent this club. I am working hard every day to improve and I know this is the perfect environment to develop my game.
“The opportunity to learn from the manager, his coaching staff and the world-class players here is fantastic. I am delighted to sign this new contract and really grateful for the chance to prove myself here for many years to come.”
The manager said: “Tahith works extremely hard every day and he is constantly improving. His performances this season, whether for the first team or Under-23s, are testament to his hard work, dedication and to his character. We are pleased with the progress he has made since he stepped up from the Academy and are looking forward to continuing to develop his talent.
“Tahith has great potential; given his age, ability and work-ethic, we can see that he has a bright future at Manchester United.”
