Solskjaer confirms ace hasn’t made trip for Club Brugge clash; opportunity for Ighalo to get first start

Manchester United take on Club Brugge in the first leg of their Europa League round-of-32 tie on Thursday, but it has been confirmed that Mason Greenwood will play no part.

The Red Devils will hope the 2-0 win over Chelsea on Monday night will help them build some momentum and act as a turning point for the season with Champions League football next season being the ultimate objective for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The manager has taken a strong squad to Belgium, including new arrivals Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo, with the latter in line for his first start as a United player.

As per ManUtd.com, Solskjaer has confirmed that Greenwood misses out due to illness, so we’re hoping he is back for the weekend when the Reds take on Watford at 2pm on Sunday.

“Mason hasn’t traveled, he didn’t feel well. Apart from that, it’s more or less the same squad as Monday,” he is quoted as saying.

With Marcus Rashford likely to miss the rest of the season through injury, Greenwood has a chance to get even more game time in the first-team, and he will be hoping to be back as soon as possible.

Greenwood will be a miss for tonight’s game given he has bagged four goals and two assists in five Europa League games so far this season.

The report from United adds that Scott McTominay won’t feature despite making progress in recovery from his knee injury, although there was positive news with Victor Lindelof returning having missed the win against Chelsea.

However, Eric Bailly came in to replace the Swede and did well. Perhaps the Ivorian will get another run tonight because he needs minutes.

Hopefully we’ll see plenty of goals with Ighalo getting his first for United!
