Barcelona chief denies rumours of Bruno Fernandes transfer before star’s move to Man Utd

According to the Metro, Barcelona supporting director Eric Abidal has told Sport that the Bulgrana didn’t attempt to sign Bruno Fernandes before the playmaker joined Manchester United.

Abidal claimed that the La Liga champions ‘were not interested at all’ in signing the 25-year-old from Sporting Lisbon.

Instead he hints that Barcelona were approached about a potential move for Fernandes by the Portugal international’s agents, which wouldn’t surprise us because they had been offering the player around to Europe’s top clubs.

Fernandes’ potential switch to United stalled before deadline day and reports suggested that the Catalan giants had entered the race for his signature. That now turns out to be complete and utter rubbish, and possibly an attempt to make United panic into getting a deal over the line as time as running out.

Thankfully, United got it done and Fernandes made his debut against Wolves.

Here’s what Abidal had to say on rumours linking Barcelona with Fernandes

‘He is an interesting player, but the agents try to do their job.

‘We did not have that need.

‘They sell you the product, but we were not interested at all. Rodrigo really interested us.’

It doesn’t really make a difference if Barcelona wanted Fernandes or not, but it shows that they were played by whoever leaked the information to the press

I still think United would have signed Fernandes anyway so it doesn’t make any difference.
