Angel Gomes wanted deadline day loan move with Man Utd future in doubt

Angel Gomes wanted to leave Manchester United on loan on deadline day, according to reports.

Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst claims Gomes’ representatives made attempts to seal a loan move in the final hours of the transfer window.

It is believed the 19-year-old wanted a move to a Premier League side, despite starring for the u23 side against Norwich in the same evening.

However, it is understood that there was no way that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was ever going to sanction a loan move for the player who has entered the last five months of his contract.

United are in contact over a new deal for the academy graduate, but Gomes’ representatives were said to be underwhelmed by the terms offered so far.

Gomes, seen as one of the most promising talents to come out of United’s academy, has started just three games under Solskjaer this season.

With his contract running down, it’s concerning that a player of his ability could leave the club for free this summer.

Perhaps sanctioning a loan move for Gomes in either of the top two divisions would have improved the player’s morale and his game as he gets used to first-team football.

According to a separate report in the MEN, Gomes has attracted interest from Barcelona and a host of other European clubs.
