Talksport pundit Tony Cascarino thinks Bruno Fernandes will be more effective for Manchester United in a more advanced role.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side played out a dull 0-0 draw in the Portuguese midfielder’s debut at Old Trafford, as he failed to provide the moment of inspiration that United needed.
But Fernandes’ overall play was encouraging and he was United’s most creative player on the ball, having three shots on target.

We don’t expect Fernandes to make an immediate impact as he settles in to the Premier League. But there is an immediate reliance on the midfielder given the lack of United’s creative options elsewhere on the pitch.
At times in yesterday’s game, Fernandes sat deep and looked to take the ball from the defenders. But former Chelsea striker Cascarino thinks he would operate best in between the midfield and defensive lines in the number 10 possession looking to create opportunities for teammates.
It is certainly too early to judge Fernandes yet but Solskjaer has a classy player amongst his ranks and should play him in the most advanced midfield role where he can affect the game the most.
“I’ve seen him higher up the pitch… he’s more effective there.”
“He gave away the ball a number of times in the second half.”
