Cesc Fabregas singles out Man Utd midfielder Fred for special praise

Cesc Fabregas praised Fred after the midfielder showed his growing influence at Manchester United after he gave another solid display in Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup semi-final second leg.

Man Utd created enough chances to win the tie tonight but Man City came out on top with a 3-2 aggregate scoreline. They still dug in to secure a 1-0 win on the night and former Premier League star Fabregas has singled Fred out for praise.

Fabregas became a star during his time at Arsenal before returning to Barcelona, where he developed in the La Masia academy. He came back to the Premier League and signed for Chelsea in 2014 before winning the league twice.

The former World Cup winner currently plays for AS Monaco in Ligue 1.

But after a dismal first season at Old Trafford following his £47m move from Shakhtar, as per BBC Sport, it’s not only nice to see Fred improve but get the praise he deserves.

Fred has played the full 90 minutes in United’s last 17 Premier League matches. For a player who struggled to get game time under José Mourinho, you can’t deny that Solskjaer is getting more out of the Brazilian.

The Brazil international anchored the midfield once again, against City, providing a solid pivot with midfield partner Nemanja Matic.

Solskjaer also has to deal with a midfield injury crisis, with Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba both still sidelined with long-term injuries.

While Matic got the game’s only goal and was arguably man of the match despite his sending off, Fred’s contribution did not go unnoticed, with Fabregas tweeting during the game: ‘Fred has been very good in the last few games I’ve been watching him.’
