Reports Man Utd have wrapped up Kalidou Koulibaly for €70-75m seem far-fetched

If there was enough excitement building around the potential Bruno Fernandes transfer, we’ve now got some rather bold claims coming out of Italy regarding Manchester United’s interest in Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.

It comes from Italian journalist Fabio Santini, speaking to the TV show Il Processo, a deal is already done with the Senegalese defender en route to Old Trafford.

He said (via Area Napoli): “Napoli will sell Kalidou Koulibaly to Manchester United for a figure of around €70-75m. It seems all done. Naturally, such a deal will be closed only in June and certainly not in January in the winter transfer window.”

The quotes have been picked up by other Napoli websites, such as Mundo Napoli, so only time will tell if they make the mainstream media.

The report, cited by Sport Witness, did not contain the original video for this and we’ve had a look to find nothing.

Everyone knows most transfer claims can be taken with a pinch of salt and how gossip can be exaggerated. A deal is not done until the player has signed the dotted line after completing a medical.

It is worth hoping that United are in talks with Napoli over Koulibay. He is one of the top defenders in Europe and would bolster our defence alongside Harry Maguire.

He is quick and strong, and play out of defence better than most of the defenders Ole Gunnar Solskjaer currently has available to him.
