Juventus director gives update on future of Manchester United midfield target

Manchester United are in desperate need of midfield additions this month.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now without his two best options Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba who are both currently out through injury.

The midfield was an area that needed addressing even before these setbacks after Ander Herrera was not replaced in the summer.

But one reported United target in this window will not be going anywhere this month.

Juventus director Fabio Paratici has revealed Emre Can will not be leaving Turin during the January transfer window.

“He is stay with us, he is one of the most coveted midfielders,” Paratici Sky Sports Italia, as sourced by ESPN.

“He has some opportunities and so do we, but I think he can be an important player for our project.”

Can has made just two Serie A starts this season and there had been suggestions he would leave this month in order to seek regular first-team opportunities.

ESPN had reported that United were interested in bringing in the 25-year-old, who proved himself in the Premier League during his time at Liverpool.

We did an article on why Can could have been a good potential signing for the Reds this month, but it looks like Solskjaer will now have to turn to other targets.

A player United are said to be interested in signing this month is Lille midfielder Boubakary Soumare.

According to Sky Sports, the Reds, Arsenal and Chelsea are in the race to sign the coveted France u21 international, who appears likely to leave during this window.
