Man Utd vs AZ Alkmaar preview: Where to watch, kick-off time & team news

Manchester United host AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Red Devils must avoid defeat in order to top Group L with qualification already secured for both teams involved in this tie.

However, this will be AZ Alkmaar’s sixth attempt to win on English soil after five defeats on previous occasions.

Their most recent visit to England was for a 4-1 defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates, in the Champions League group stages, back in 2009.

Man Utd have a good record against Dutch opposition, losing just once, versus Ajax in the Europa League back in 2012.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men will be favourites to win the game after recording two home wins in the Europa League so far this season.

The last and only competitive face-off between these two sides was back in October. The game finished scoreless but we are expecting goals tomorrow night, as seen below in the match prediction…

Jesse Lingard could miss the game after picking up a knock in the 2-1 win over Man City and missing training on Wednesday, as per Sky Sports.

There’s no sign of an imminent return for French midfielder Paul Pogba, who has been out of action since September due to an ankle injury.

At least Nemanja Matic is available to give some experience in a side full of youthful prospects.

The match will be shown live on BT Sport 2 but prior to kick-off, MUTV subscribers can watch all of the build-up from 18:30 — followed by live radio commentary.

Stretty News prediction

The wins over Tottenham and Man City in the league should give the team a big boost going forward. A slip up tomorrow could ruin any momentum gained over the past week and we fully expect United the pass the test with flying colours.

AZ Alkmaar are coming to Old Trafford to cause an upset but we cannot allow complacency get the better of us. This young United side needs to learn how to finish games in order to show any real level of consistency.

Marcus Rashford is likely to start on the bench — with Mason Greenwood starting instead — to get some rest but also to be available if there are nervy moments at the end of the match.
