Solskjaer discusses Man Utd team news for AZ Alkmaar clash

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken about his squad plans ahead of Man Utd’s final game in Group L of the Europa League.

Manchester United host AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night needing a win to ensure first place in their group ahead of the knockout phase with qualification already secured.

After big wins over Tottenham and Man City in the Premier League, Solskjaer will be expecting his players to carry that momentum into the game with United the better team on paper.

Solskjaer gave a fitness update to MUTV this morning, saying, “Diogo [Dalot] is back training fully. Nemanja [Matic] is back. [Marcos] Rojo is hopefully back next week. Eric [Bailly] and Timothy [Fosu-Mensah] are training with the team from next week onwards.

“We’re getting better and better in that respect. In January, I reckon we will have many of them match fit.”

Unfortunately the game comes too soon for Paul Pogba, who has missed a big chunk of the season with an ankle problem.

“Paul is not ready to play but won’t be far away,” Solskjaer added.

The Reds fielded a very young side in the previous group game, at Astana, with Solskjaer handing out six debuts. We expect to see more experience on show this time around as it sounds like Matic will be involved at some point against Alkmaar.

James Garner, who started in the defeat away to FC Astana, was substituted during the U-23s 3-1 win over West Brom on Monday night which is perhaps a hint that he could feature too.
