Man Utd make Premier League midfielder a priority target; £80m deal in January a distant possibility

West Ham midfielder Declan Rice has emerged as a top priority signing for Man Utd, according to Goal.com.

The report even suggests that if Manchester United can stump up £80 million in the coming weeks a move may even be made as early as January, although that seems hard to believe.

Every man and his dog knows about United’s need for a defensive-minded midfielder, with Nemanja Matic’s best days beyond him and Fred still struggling to impress.

The future of Paul Pogba is in some doubt still as reports continue to link him with a switch to Real Madrid.

Now eyes seem to be on England midfielder Rice, a player with real physicality which is something we seem to lack in midfield — but it will take a bid of around £80m to tempt the Hammers to sell.

Rice started his career as a Chelsea youngster before rising through the ranks with West Ham. He may now be on the verge of signing for the biggest club in England — not long after breaking into Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions side.

We reckon this transfer story is credible — but signing Rice in January will be difficult. It’s more than likely to go through next summer.
