Report: Inter Milan ready to make approach for €25m Man Utd midfielder in January

According to reports in Italy, Inter Milan are lining up a transfer of a third Manchester United player in January.

Antonio Conte’s side already acquired Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku this summer, but are now said to be interested in signing Nemanja Matic.

Calciomercato. claim that the Serie A giants want to capitalise on the uncertainty surrounding the Serbian’s future at Old Trafford with an approach in the January transfer window.

Matic’s contract at Old Trafford runs out next summer, so a reported bid of €25m may tempt the Reds to sell if they don’t choose to trigger the 12-month extension in his contract.

Conte has previously managed the midfielder at Chelsea, where he was a key figure in the club’s Premier League title-winning season under the Italian.

The 31-year-old has been demoted to the bench this season with Scott McTominay starting in defensive midfield.

Although Matic’s form has been deteriorating in recent months, selling him does not seem a viable option given the shortage of midfield options currently available to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian is relying heavily on youngsters McTominay and Andreas Pereira, and has Fred as his only other established midfielder to play alongside Paul Pogba.

If Matic was to be sold, two midfield additions would be needed in January to strengthen an area the Reds are already short in.
