Man Utd ‘enquire second time’ about Barcelona star; Reds need at least two midfield additions

Manchester United have not forgotten about Ivan Rakitic after making a second enquiry to Barcelona about the midfielder, if Spanish reports are to be believed.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could make few better signings to bolster his midfield after an expired contract saw Ander Herrera leave the club while Paul Pogba’s future remains up in the air.

Sport claim Barcelona were contacted about Rakitic three-weeks ago, and the Red Devils have now made a second approach.

The report, cited by The Sun, adds that Nou Camp chiefs are willing to sell the Croatian star and that he could cost as little as £45m.

That’s not a lot for a player like Rakitic, although he is 31-years-old and United are supposedly looking to build a team around youth, so there’s reason to believe this is an example of exaggerated reporting.

United are said to be working on a deal to bring Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon to Old Trafford.

Moreover, Newcastle midfielder Sean Longstaff is seen as another potential signing.

United definitely sound like they’re considering their options for midfield signings and need to bring in at least two in this transfer window.

The Metro claims United expect to sign both Fernandes and Longstaff.
