Man Utd eye move for £40m-rated Everton midfielder, previously linked with PSG

Manchester United need to bolster their midfield as well as defence this season.

The Red Devils are strongly linked with Sporting Lisbon playmaker Bruno Fernandes, as reported by The Sun, after he burst onto the scene last season with his goals from midfield, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will still need more additions even if United can strike a deal for the Portugal international.

Senegal international and Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye has been linked with a move to Old Trafford, as per Evening Standard, with the Daily Mail claiming he’d cost around £40m. That’s no bad for a Premier League regular, coming with experience in the English top-flight.

It wouldn’t take him long to adjust, you’d hope, as long as the intel being reported is accurate.

Gueye has been very good at Goodison Park and he’d be an upgrade on Nemanja Matic, with the Serbian appearing like a player who has surpassed his peak, judging on performances solely from last season.

PSG were trying to sign Gueye in January and he even asked the Merseyside club to let him leave, which was reported at the time by Sky Sports, so it will be interesting to see if his head turns again.

The departure of Ander Herrera will hurt Solskjaer men unless he replaces the Spaniard. United are light in numbers across midfield and there’s a genuine need to sign some real quality.
