Man Utd to decide on £25m transfer next week but Solskjaer doesn’t want Tottenham star

Manchester United will make a decision on pursuing a move for Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld, according to reports.

The Sun claims United have refused to rule out a move for the Belgian centre-back but will wait until after the Champions League final.

Spurs take on Liverpool in the final on Saturday night and all of us are rooting for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

It could be Alderweirled’s last game for the club, with his contract allowing him to leave White Heart Lane for £25m this summer. And there has been no shortage of interest in recent transfer windows.

Jurgen Klopp and his players have looked calm all week – probably because they were in the same position a year ago, facing a much stronger team in Real Madrid who went on to win their third consecutive Champions League.

But hopefully, Spurs can rain on their parade, with Alderweireld putting in a masterclass performance to force United’s hand in making a deal happen this summer.

The Belgium international has been long linked with a move to Old Trafford, and although one never materialised there’s still hope yet.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs to act now to fix his problems in defence. While it would be best to sign a younger alternative with a higher ceiling than Alderweireld, such as Matthjis de Ligt, United can’t be too fussy if they start running out of time.

However, the report adds that Solskjaer would prefer to retain his current centre-backs and use his coaching ability to turn their form around.

It’s OK, Ole. You can’t draw blood from a stone.
