Man Utd re-establish communication with Antoine Griezmann’s representatives; Old Trafford seen as ‘most likely destination’

Antoine Griezmann last week announced his intention to finally leave Atletico Madrid and The Independent believes that communication has been re-established with Manchester United.

The video in which the announcement was delivered has allegedly irritated some of the Barcelona hierarchy because they felt it came with the expectation that the La Liga champions would meet Griezmann’s £108m release clause.

Apparently some people within Barcelona think that money would be better spent elsewhere.

So, what does Griezmann do if Barça don’t want to sign him this summer?

His entourage will tout him around Europe in search of the biggest club and the best deal. Then, they’ll evaluate their options before coming to a conclusion.

The Independent adds that Manchester City and Real Madrid aren’t interested in signing the French forward, while Juventus are unable to afford him, so this could open up and allow United a clear run at Griezmann.

This line from the report is certainly of interest: “Some key figures in European football even believe that Old Trafford is Griezmann’s most likely destination.”

That could also be nonsense spread by the player’s entourage…

Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needs a better option for the right side of his attack next season, but Griezmann is not a specialist winger. For a player that will cost so much, does the Atletico Madrid man fit into Solskjaer’s system?

Solskjaer wouldn’t go for a player of such expense if he didn’t want him, so let’s see if there is anything to these reports, because the club will look to sign a big name if they lose either David de Gea or Paul Pogba in the summer.
