Manchester United have failed to compete for, never mind win a Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement six years ago.
After David Moyes, Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho all failed domestically at Old Trafford, there has to be a wider issue behind the club’s problems. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side’s humiliation at Everton yesterday demonstrates the club is as far away as ever to getting back to the glory days of the Ferguson era.
Many United fans have recognised the role of Executive Vice-Chairman Ed Woodward in the club’s recent demise, blaming a scatter-gun recruitment process and a failure to appoint a footballing director as key attributing factors.

Since Sir Alex Ferguson left, Woodward, replacing former CEO David Gill, has overseen almost £650 million spent in transfers, many of whom have failed to perform at the club. Alexis Sanchez’ recruitment has come under particular criticism, with the Chilean’s extraordinary wages now making it increasingly difficult for the club to tie other players down to contracts.
Many Reds are also concerned of the reported impending appointment of Mike Phelan as technical director, as per the Telegraph.
Check out some fans tweets regarding Woodward’s failure below:
I think most fans would see Ed Woodward as a big part of our problems. Recruitment has been very poor.
Always easy to blame the owners but to be fair to them I think they have always supported big price purchases.— Graeme Webb (@LeftAtTheStart) April 22, 2019
Ed Woodward has extended the contracts of these two. Our club is run by business men who know nothing about football. This is painful to watch. #MUFC pic.twitter.com/svSJmDyzk4

Ed Woodward pumping money into the team without a structure, is what is making most of these players coming to Man Utd. Some are there because, the club doubled their wages to what they earned at their previous club. That's why they aren't stable.

6 months of planning for appointing a manager and Sporting Director and we appoint OGS and might end up with Mike Phelan as Sporting Director.
Can't even decide if Ed Woodward is just winging it or there's actually a thought behind it. #MUFC

Don’t be fooled by Ed Woodward coming out and saying he made a mistake with the Alexis deal that’s just the tip of the ice berg he’s a very savvy operator the easiest thing he can say is the obvious. But his mistakes are bigger than Alexis not investing in the defence….

Mike Phelan is needed in the role he already occupies. Why in the hell are they changing that? Sometimes it really feels like Ed Woodward was sent to destroy the club without making it look too obvious.

@ManUtd I just hope you realize Ed Woodward has been the major cause of our decline in the EPL for the past 6 seasons. Thank you.

I actually think Ole Gunnar Solskjær is the right man for them, but he won't get the backing he needs, and that will lead to his demise at the club. He won't do as well as Mourinho did in terms of stats, but he's brought back belief.
United's real issue is Ed Woodward.

Seriously, what are Phelan's qualifications to be technical director? Ed Woodward is an incompetent, impulsive fool. #MUFC

I'll give him a chance. He deserves that much but Ed Woodward and the Glazers are the definition of the word 'pathetic'
Literally haven't gone one ounce of ambition. I can't put it into words just how much they have held this club back. So sad to see. https://t.co/b4iPqBlmSU
