A number of Europe’s elite will be in the market this summer for a new centre-back, so Manchester United are likely to face fierce competition for Senegal international Kalidou Koulibaly.
The Napoli defender has broken his silence on transfer rumours while admitting he’s ‘pleased’ to be attracting such interest.
The quick and powerful centre-back is understood to be a prime target for United this summer, as reported by ESPN, suggesting the club is serious about defensive reinforcements to build for the future.

If one thing is for certain it’s that Napoli won’t allow Koulibaly leave for cheap and he’s likely to cost more than Virgil van Dijk (£75 million from Southampton to Liverpool, as per The42).
But that’s the calibre of player we should be going for to strengthen a position. For too long now, United’s defence has been problematic and a lot of that comes down to waiting patiently for Chris Smalling and Phil Jones’ eggs to hatch, yet both players were already given new contracts this season.
However, Koulibaly did little to end rumours when asked about his future.
“My future? I don’t know if I’m one of the strongest defenders. I always try to give my best,” Koulibaly told Rai Sport on Friday, as cited by the Mirror.
“Since I’m here, I always try to grow with Napoli. I have a lot of motivation to go on and I want to keep doing this.
“I am pleased that many teams follow me, but I want to demonstrate on the field that I am at the level of the greatest and I want to show it in the future.”
Koulibaly would be the idea centre-back signing for United this season.
He is, without question, the pick of the bunch.
Quick, strong, good in the air and with the ball at his feet, this is a defender who could take the Premier League by storm.
