Victor Lindelof stats show significant improvement over past year

Victor Lindelof has arguably been Manchester United’s best performer over the past month.

Even when having to partner an inadequate Phil Jones in the heart of defence, the Swede has looked more assured of late and is definitely in contention to become a regular in United’s defence for the future.

There has been a lot of talk about United making a marque signing to improve the side’s defence. ESPN believe the club will wait until the summer to make a move for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, who would make a fine addition to the current defence.

A world-class defender like Koulibaly could bring the best out of Lindelof and the signs are there to suggest the Swede is ready to make his mark at the highest level.

He had a solid World Cup campaign in the summer as Sweden reached the quarter-finals before losing 2-0 against England.

Harry Maguire was one of the scorers for Gareth Southgate’s men that day, during a period that saw him linked with a move to Old Trafford. The England centre-back scored another important goal last night against Liverpool to prevent the Scousers from going seven points clear on top of the Premier League.

Moreover, stats have emerged from Sky Sports showing Lindelof’s improvement since last season, when he arrived at Old Trafford under José Mourinho and featured sporadically.

They show a better duel success rate by 8% and a significant 12% increase in aerial success.

United finally have a defender they can plan for the future with in Lindelof, with the jury still very much out on Eric Bailly.

Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have had enough chances down the years and really need to be moved on this summer.
