Paris Saint-Germain have joined the race to sign Manchester United midfield target Lorenzo Pellegrini, according to reports.
The Roma midfielder is currently thriving in Serie A but the latest surrounding Pellegrini is that he could be on his way to Ligue 1 instead of a switch to Old Trafford.
Perhaps PSG see Pellegrini as a possible replacement for Adrien Rabiot, who many expect to join Barcelona when the Frenchman’s contract expires at the end of the season, as reported by Sky Sports.
Despite coming through the youth system at PSG and knowing the club like the back of his hand, Rabiot has repeatedly refused to negotiate a new deal with the French champions.
According to Football Italia, Pellegrini has a release clause of €30 million, which could see a top European club sign him in a bargain deal.
In nine league games this season, the Italian scored 1 goal and created 2 assists, while picking up 4 yellow cards, as per WhoScored.
In November 2018, Pellegrini’s agent Giampiero Pocetta argued his client has not been distracted by rumours of a move to United.
“If I have to talk about Lorenzo right now the only thing I can talk about is his extraordinary form,” Pocetta told Corriere dello Sport, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.
“He’s getting what he deserves on the pitch, and the rumours about the transfer market never have distracted him nor disturbed him.
“Pellegrini is only thinking about improving with and for Roma.
“Manchester United? I’m sorry that rumours have spread about financial aspects relating to him and his team-mates. It doesn’t matter for Lorenzo. He doesn’t live for meetings, especially financial ones.
“These issues don’t count for now – it’s normal that Pellegrini is liked. Lorenzo is happy, though, he’s already chosen Roma once.
“Then, when it’s time, we’ll sit down with Monchi again.”
Moreover, PSG’s reported interest may come as a warning call to United that they will need to act quickly to sign Pellegrini, if genuinely interested in doing so…
