Napoli to prepare improved offer for Matteo Darmian

Napoli are preparing a new bid to sign Manchester United full-back Matteo Darmian, according to the Daily Mail.

The Italian club are set to make a new and improved offer for the full-back after a season-long loan deal was rejected earlier this week.

They are expected to yet again make a loan offer, with an option to buy at the end of the season.  Darmian would like to leave Old Trafford to secure regular first-team football, ideally in a move back to the Serie A. United manager Jose Mourinho is willing to sell the Italian if the right offer was to come in.

Darmian has been involved heavily in United’s pre-season campaign due to the injuries of captain Antonio Valencia and new signing Diogo Dalot. However, the 28-year-old has struggled to cement a first-team place at Old Trafford since signing from Torino in 2015.

“I want to play more regularly, last season I didn’t play much but that’s my objective and ambition,” said Darmian in a recent interview, “That’s why I have spoke with the club about my future. I want to leave but I do not know what will happen.”

The Italian defender had also been linked with a move to Juventus, with Brazilian Alex Sandro linked to be coming through the other door. However United could not agree ona fee with the Italian champions to bring the highly rated full-back to the club.

Mourinho is confident Man Utd will secure one more new signing before their opening game of the season against Leicester City at Old Trafford next Friday.
