Journalist makes big claim on Mourinho’s transfer plans

Manchester United fans on Twitter are always looking for the latest scoop and, as we all know, some journalists are more reliable than others.

The respected Miguel Delaney dropped a story this evening suggesting United are now unlikely to sign a new left-back, as Jose Mourinho is prepared to devote that area of his budget to a back-up for Romelu Lukaku.

According to Delaney’s article in the Independent, United have had a long-standing interest in both Alex Sandro of Juventus and Kieran Tierney of Celtic and, with Luke Shaw having repeatedly struggled to assert himself, the manager had been expected to push for an upgrade.

That no longer appears to be the case with Mourinho willing to stick by makeshift left-back Ashley Young for another season, and instead is monitoring options to come in if needed should Lukaku get injured or suspended.

The Independent understands Mourinho wants a player who is like-for-like and can offer the same physicality. As a result, West Ham’s Marko Arnautovic and Juventus’ Mario Mandzukic have both been linked with moves to United this summer.

So, it looks like Shaw may be given another lifeline at Old Trafford to prove himself.
