Nemanja Vidic staying at United according to agent

Manchester United’s captain, Nemanja Vidic, will be staying at Old Trafford, according to his agent Silvano Martina.

The Serbian defender, aged 29, has been linked with a move to a number of Serie A sides including Juventus, but Martina put all the speculation to bed when speaking to an Italian radio station.

“I talked to him about a hypothetical transfer and he replied, ‘I am the captain of Manchester United, earning well, I’ve won almost everything,” Martina said.

“Why should I go to Italy right now, when Italian football is going through a turbulent period?,” he told Radio Sportiva.

“He’s a player that everyone wants. This response removes any doubt about where his future lies – he stays where he is.”

In his first season as Manchester United captain, Vidic lead Ferguson’s Red army to an historic 19th league title, knocking Liverpool off their perch. The former Spartak Moscow defender had one of his best seasons yet, rarely being put to blame for any defensive mistake.

I know contracts don’t mean as much in the modern game but it’s still important to remember he signed a four-year extension last Augest when Real Madrid were favorites to get his signature.
