Benjamin Sesko could be ruled out of Manchester United’s trip to face Sunderland tomorrow.

The forward is, however, the only fresh concern for Michael Carrick this week, with United boasting an otherwise fit squad – with the exception of long-term absentee Matthijs de Ligt.

Benjamin Sesko seeking more goals in final three fixtures

Sesko was withdrawn at the interval against Liverpool last Sunday after an impressive first-half display, during which he netted the 11th Premier League goal of his maiden season.

No player has netted more goals (nine) than the Slovenian since Ruben Amorim was relieved of his duties in January, so it goes without saying that he’d have been desperate to add to his tally against the Black Cats.

Yet, his involvement in the clash is currently up in the air due to the problem he sustained last time out.

Why Sesko could miss out vs Sunderland

In the first half of the win over Liverpool, Ibrahima Konate barged Sesko off the pitch when chasing down the ball.

The youngster clattered down Old Trafford’s steep pitchside drop and into the advertising boards, which is said to have re-aggravated an existing shin injury that he’d been nursing.

No foul or free-kick was awarded by Darren England, and Sesko did get up to see out the remainder of the half before re-emerging after the break to watch on from the bench, as Amad Diallo took his place.

While his prospective absence won’t come as too much of a concern squad-wise, with Carrick having the likes of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo to deputise up front, it’s still a frustrating situation for the frontman, given he is enjoying his most prolific form in a red shirt.

Sesko’s record under Carrick

Kick-off is at 3pm at the Stadium of Light, so it’ll be worth keeping an eye on whether Sesko makes the trip to Wearside with the rest of his teammates.
