Manchester United youngsters Chido Obi and Harry Amass have caused a stir after posting and deleting Instagram posts intended as digs at Ruben Amorim.

Kobbie Mainoo’s miserable situation at Man Utd may have stolen the headlines in recent months, but many fans and observers feel this is a general issue that has been blemishing Amorim’s reign, rather than an individual case.

So ahead of Monday’s clash against Bournemouth, the lack of minutes for academy products was brought up in Monday’s press conference.

Defiant as ever, the 40-year-old insisted that the youngsters that the fans are crying for remain too green and unready for the first team, while mentioning two players who made their senior debuts under his tutelage last season.

“Amass is now struggling in the Championship. Chido is not always a starter in under-21s. All these guys played when a lot of people were saying sack the manager!” said Amorim in his presser, as reported by the Manchester Evening News.

The manager was probably referring to Sheffield Wednesday’s deep troubles rather than Amass, who has been one of the club’s few bright spots this season.

Nevertheless, this comment didn’t sit well with the young left-back who was picked as Wednesday’s MVP in November.

Hence, the teenager posted a photo of himself on Instagram while holding the Best Player of the Month Award.

Interestingly, Obi followed suit by posting a photo of himself celebrating a goal he scored for Man Utd’s U21 side.

Nevertheless, both posts have since been deleted, most probably on the club’s advice.

What’s next for Chido & Amass at Man Utd

Amorim should have done better when articulating himself, or simply avoided making such discouraging statements towards two of the brightest youngsters at the club.

On the other hand, the duo’s reaction is somewhat expected and understandable considering their ages, but whoever told them to delete the posts has made the right decision, and luckily, they both swiftly obliged.

Stats in 25/26 Club Appearances Goals Assists
Chido Obi Man Utd U21 13 5 2
Harry Amass Sheffield Wednesday 16 1 1

The Man Utd officials must now work on mending the fences as quickly as possible and put the whole matter to bed, as it would be a shame to jeopardise two promising Man Utd careers due to some ill-advised statements and youthful reactions.

  1. He made an honest statement, and the Ill trained academy players reacted stupidly. Ever wondered why most of our recent academy players have an attitude problem? From Rashford, to Greenwood, to Garnacho. A lot of these players need to learn some manners. They develop a God-complex while still in the academy. Chido & Amass haven’t exactly pulled up trees when given the chance, have they?. Sometimes we just clamor for academy players for the sake of it. Compare it to academy players at other clubs that are proper footballers. Foden, Reece, Nico O’Reilly, Rico Lewis, Oscar Bobb, Lewis-Kelly, Max Dowman, etc. The only proper academy player we have right now is Kobbie & maybe (huge emphasis on the maybe) JJ Gabriel. The agents and sometimes fans of these academy players make them think they are absolutely magnificent when in all honesty they are bang average.
