In the aftermath of Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace eight days ago, Jason Wilcox told the media in attendance at Selhurst Park to ‘trust the process’ as he made his way out of the stadium.

The game saw Ruben Amorim’s United get back to winning ways at the earliest opportunity following their lacklustre defeat to Everton on November 24, which put an end to the side’s five-game unbeaten streak (three wins and two draws).

However, the subsequent match saw United once again fail to capitalise on their rivals dropping points, as they squandered an opportunity to move amongst the top-five for the fourth time this season.

The Reds were held to a 1-1 draw against West Ham at Old Trafford, and Amorim came under fire post-match for making four defensive changes when leading by a goal.

Fans were disgruntled to see such a lack of ambition to try and protect such a narrow lead as opposed to chasing more goals. That, along with the fact that Kobbie Mainoo was left on the bench for the full 90 minutes, has seen the head coach fall in some supporters’ estimations.

2025/2026 marks the first full term that Amorim has taken charge of from the off in the Old Trafford dugout. He is on the back of the club’s lowest-ever finish in Premier League history after they had slumped to 15th place upon the culmination of 2024/2025.

Why pressure is heaped on Amorim this season

Given there is no European football to account for and United were knocked out of the League Cup in just the second round, the pressure on Amorim to finish amongst the Champions League places has increased 10-fold.

It’s also worth taking into account that over £200 million was shelled out to grant him his desired signings over the summer, so there’s really no excuse for failing to hit the targets set for him from now until May.

Still, Wilcox’s three-word plea post-Palace (relayed by MailSport’s Chris Wheeler) suggests INEOS will continue to back the Portuguese even amidst the team’s fluctuating form.

  1. United are no longer worth watching under Amorin and yet again like as with Ten Hag are dithering about again while we slump lower in the table even after 200 million in transfers so the system is still not working so it’s not sensible to continue with it and a manager who stubbornly won’t change it

    1. Yes they are. But he needs players capable of performing better at WB and CM to get better results. He must see something in Mainoo which puts him off from playing the kid. And in the absence of a Cwd it’s another problem for the coach.

We can’t keep changing coaches whenever we are going through a bad patch, that’s called being a diva.

  2. The continual abuse of Manchester United players by individuals even when they are out through injuries is an absolute disgrace.Even when some leave the club they are subjected to this appalling nonsense. When is something going to be done about it.A major example is Marcus Rashford. Once a hero due to his brigantine charity work he faces abuse every day of the week

  3. Amorim is NOT a good tactician and he is too stubborn to change his system during games when ahead or looking for goals to win games.
Most managers would change when needed, particularly in adding an extra midfielder or defender to see out a game when leading.
Tactics win games now more than before. Knowing when to outwit your opposition Manager/coach in a game is a wonderful nous to have, and more and more top managers use it nowadays to get results. But Amorim is too stubborn and won’t change for the POPE he says. We will never win a Premiership or a Cup with him in charge.
The changes he makes in games has lost us points, and his selections also. Wilco, and Berada should see this and change the manager before it is too late. He will spend millions on the players he wants, and won’t give our young players a chance.
We have young players who could save us millions, but he sees it different than everyone else.
Mainoo should be on the team sheet every game and players like, Lacey, Kone, Fletcher, Obi, Thwaites, and Biancheri, along with others should have been given game time.
These young players will leave if they don’t get their chance, and it’s all down to AMORIM and his stubbornness.
