Ruben Amorim has been granted a substantial fitness boost on the eve of Manchester United’s clash with West Ham.

It was confirmed this morning by club media that Matheus Cunha had resumed first-team training ahead of tomorrow’s outing, having missed the last two games through injury.

Before the Reds locked horns with Everton on November 24, fans started sweating over the forward’s condition after he was forced to pull out of Altrincham’s Christmas lights switch-on through injury.

It was later revealed that Cunha had received a ‘serious blow’ to the head in training, which also ruled him out of the subsequent victory over Crystal Palace.

Now, however, he is poised to return to the matchday squad as United look to make it back-to-back wins at Old Trafford on Thursday evening.

The 26-year-old has started eight times in the Premier League since making the switch from Wolverhampton Wanderers over the summer and has been utilised off the bench twice.

‘Composed’ Cunha can be a difference-maker for Amorim

While he’s only returned one goal, he has been lauded for having an immediate impact on the team’s attacking threat, with journalist Sam Pilger hailing his ‘composure, skill, flair, courage and character’ following Cunha’s sensational display at Anfield in October.

Cunha being available to face the Irons could see Joshua Zirkzee lose his starting spot, as he was called upon to make his first starts of the season in the Brazilian’s absence.

That being said, he did play an integral role in United beating the Eagles last time out by scoring the leveller via a scintillating finish, so Amorim will have some thinking to do over how he wants his side to shape up.

  1. Cunha can become a very important player for Manchester United. This will depend on how good a team player he is! Let him stop playing for himself and begin to pass the ball to his teammate who is in the best position to score. Cunha should not too selfish as to ignore positional importance and timing of right passes. He can win more games for UNITED by creating more assists than just shooting the ball from very far distances. Some of his shots will be weak before reaching the sis (6) yard box while others will drift away from the pole because he chose to shoot them from very far distances instead of passing the ball to the man or men in the six (6) yard box. Amorin and his staff should advise him on this.
