Manchester United have reportedly submitted an offer for coveted Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton.
The Red Devils didn’t sign any new midfielders in 2025, preferring to focus mainly on revamping the attack. Nevertheless, the changes are expected to ensue next year, although it remains unclear whether INEOS will be making any movements in January, or rather wait until the summer.
In any case, Man Utd are being linked with a host of profiles, but Wharton is considered among the main candidates for the role, alongside fellow Premier League up-and-comers, Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson.
Man United want to anticipate the competition for Adam Wharton
While many believe that securing a January deal for either of the three aforementioned midfielders is unlikely, a popular news account on X claims that United have already begun to test Palace’s resolve by making an opening bid for Wharton.

The source adds that Ruben Amorim is a staunch admirer of the ‘outstanding’ 21-year-old and that MUFC would like to anticipate the competition from other suitors, mainly Liverpool.
“My contact at the club are telling me that 𝐛𝐢𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐝𝐚𝐦 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐨𝐧,” reads the update on X.
“Ruben Amorim loves the player and believes he can sell the project to Adam before Liverpool contact the player.”
Do Man Utd stand a chance at landing Wharton in January?
While several other reports have claimed that Man Utd have no chance at landing Wharton in the middle of the campaign, it remains to be seen if this rumoured attempt is aimed at luring the England international to Carrington in January, or simply set the stage for a summer transfer.
In either case, most Man Utd fans would be happy to welcome the Palace star, as he would add flair and technique to the middle of the park.
| Wharton’s career stats | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Premier League | 45 | 0 | 5 |
| Championship | 44 | 4 | 4 |
| FA Cup | 6 | 0 | 0 |
| Carabao Cup | 8 | 0 | 1 |
However, the biggest dilemma is whether Wharton and Bruno Fernandes are compatible in the double pivot. Many would argue that the Man Utd skipper is best paired with a midfield enforcer rather than a deep-lying player like Wharton.

If he comes who makes way? Bruno? That will not happen as that means either Cunha or Mbeumo get benched or Sesko is no longer needed. Casemiro? That is an invitation to disaster. This bloke is a deep lying midfielder and not a playmaker or midfield enforcer, somthing only Casemiro is at United. So why does the clueless Amorim want him? That is how shallow Amorim’s understanding of his own formation is.
You read an unverified article online and then start abusing Amorim calling him clueless when you’re actually the clueless one. Who told you Amorim has a say in transfer? You didn’t listen to the interview where Wilcox said the board and scouts have the final say on transfers?
Why do some of you hate this man so much?
Wharton to United ? Tired of our scouts. What do you want to do with Wharton ? Such a slow indomie like player. Break the bank n get baleba or Elliot Anderson please. Nothing exceptional bout Wharton
