Joshua Zirkzee’s future at Manchester United remains up in the air in the build-up to the January window.

In recent weeks, reports have suggested that Zirkzee will push to leave Old Trafford – even if just on loan – in the winter to secure more game time elsewhere.

United are said to be closed off to his departure, primarily due to the fact that Ruben Amorim’s attacking options will be depleted in January when Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo jet off to represent their respective countries in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Now, however, after Zirkzee was left on the bench for the sixth game this season during Saturday’s draw with Nottingham Forest, journalist Sam C claims the situation is becoming ‘increasingly complicated’.

From the player’s perspective, ‘frustration’ is building over his reduced role this term, but the club have privately commended his ‘professionalism and maturity’ amidst his struggles.

So, where might Zirkzee end up in the event his wishes are granted?

As things stand, he has gained a firm admirer in the form of top-flight strugglers West Ham.

Nuno Espirito Santo seemingly views the 24-year-old as a suitable option to try and turn his side’s fortunes around as they battle to get themselves out of the bottom three; they currently sit three points from safety following yesterday’s triumphant 3-1 win over Newcastle United.

AS Roma have also established their interest in bringing Zirkzee back to Italy, where he spent two seasons with Bologna prior to his £36.5 million United switch.

It remains to be seen if the Dutchman would prefer to continue plying his trade in England or look to revive his form in a slightly less pressure-filled environment.
