Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim defended his compatriot Diogo Dalot following his woeful outing at City Ground.
The Red Devils were hoping to extend their winning streak to four, but they at least managed to escape with a point following an entertaining back-and-forth away contest against Nottingham Forest.
Casemiro gave MUFC the lead in the first half, but Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolo Savona turned the result upside-down after the break. Nevertheless, Amad Diallo came to Man Utd’s rescue, scoring an astonishing volley to end the match 2-2.

Sadly for Dalot, he endured a rough afternoon in Nottingham. The 26-year-old got the nod on the left flank at the expense of Patrick Dorgu, but he was the first player to be hauled off by the manager.
Interestingly, Amorim was vexed by Dalot’s back-to-back blunders in the first half, and that was even prior to Forest’s two goals, where the wing-back’s defensive weaknesses were exposed, as highlighted by Samuel Luckhurst’s post-match player ratings for The Sun.
The journalist gave the Portuguese player an abysmal grade of 3/10.
Nevertheless, Amorim felt he was partially at fault for the player’s vast struggles, since he’s been fielding him on the left flank rather than his natural place on the right side.
“If you see Dalot, many times Dalot has the ball with space to make the cross ,but with the right foot he is always going inside without the space,” said Amorim in his post-match press conference.
“The only thing with Patrick, he is going to do the same thing but when you have the ball go to the side and cross, the space is there, if you want to go inside Cunha is there always to receive the ball.”
What to make of Amorim’s justifications regarding Dalot’s performance?
With Dalot playing on the left and Amad on the right, Man United haven’t been able to rely on crosses from the wings, unless Luke Shaw or Leny Yoro would push from the back, which remains a dangerous strategy.
But while Amorim’s explanation regarding Dalot could explain his attacking struggles against Forest, it doesn’t quite justify his defensive howlers, or his overall complacency.
In any case, Dorgu should be the heavy favourite to start on the left against Spurs next weekend.
No Dalot should be on the bench next week but that is not going to happen. For weeks already Dalot is been bad at both left and right’Armorin needs to cut the Portugees cord and sit him and play his best players not his country people

In and out Dalot is the problem whether he plays right or left back. Even last season he was the problem. Amorim has a great favour on Dalot over out right or left backs.
Amorin is falling into the same trap as Ten Hag picking his countrymen or ex players over commonsense Dalot will always pass back when confronted by the opposition rather than take them on thus slowing down play and i see Luckhurst has defected to that comic the Sun that’s just about his level
