Sky confirms Man Utd want ‘world-class distributor’ who now has an asking price

Stuttgart has reportedly named their price for Angelo Stiller, who has been on Manchester United’s shortlist for quite some time now.

The Red Devils have revamped their attack last summer, so they’re now expected to address their midfield issues, either in January or June.

Man Utd have already enquired about Stiller last summer after giving up on Carlos Baleba, but they didn’t follow up on their interest with a concrete offer.

Nevertheless, Sky Sport DE suggests that the Premier League giants remain among the 24-year-old’s suitors. The list also includes Barcelona.

The source also adds that Stuttgart have set their price at €50 million. The German’s contract with the Bundesliga side is valid until June 2028, and it contains a release clause worth €40 million. However, Stuttgart can annulate this clause by paying €2 million.

Since Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte haven’t entirely convinced, United have been tipped to buy a new No.6. The club has been linked with a host of rising Premier League midfielders, mainly Baleba, Adam Wharton and Elliot Anderson.

Nevertheless, Stiller represents an interesting alternative option, whether due to his relatively affordable price or his impressive attributes.

The Munich native has been described as a ‘world-class distributor’ as he can effortlessly pick up a teammate in attack. This is also portrayed by his 54 career assists (via Transfermarkt).

Would Stiller fit in Amorim’s Man Utd plans?

If Bruno Fernandes were to prolong his Man United career and continue to perform as part of the double pivot, many fans and observers believe he should be paired with a midfield enforcer like Beleba. However, Stiller might not fit in that mould, as the German is considered a deep-lying playmaker.

Stiller’s stats per club Appearances Goals Assists
Stuttgart 92 6 21
Hoffenheim 52 4 3
Bayern Munich II 50 1 8
Bayern Munich 3 0 0

So, before deciding to pursue the Bayern Munich youth product, Man Utd must first understand what type of midfielder the manager needs to complete his tactical jigsaw, as no one wants to witness another Kobbie Mainoo case.

  1. What is it with the media and Casemiro. They keep harping on him being unconvincing. Agreed he’s slowed down but he is still the only one holding the midfield. Match after match it is seen that United’s midfield becomes non existant as soon as he is taken off. The problem is both ETH and Amorim have a poor understanding of how to use a talented mifielder. Casemiro was fantastic when he had Fred beside him. Fred was sold and United were never able to find a single player who could do what Fred did. To replace Casemiro would mean that United will have to find a younger and faster player who has at least 50% of Casemiro’s passing ability and A MANAGER WHO UNDERSTANDS HOW A MIDFIELD FUNCTIONS.
