0 tackles, 1 chance created: United’s most trustworthy lieutenant was ‘abysmal’ today – but Amorim won’t drop him

Manchester United slumped to their third Premier League defeat of the campaign and 17th under Ruben Amorim this afternoon.

A 3-1 loss at the hands of Brentford has rounded off yet another dismal gameweek for the Red Devils.

They have consequently fallen to 13th in the table, but could end the weekend just above the relegation zone depending on how the clubs below them fare in their respective fixtures.

United waste chance to win back-to-back league games

No player covered themselves in glory at the Gtech Community Stadium. Benjamin Sesko did secure his first goal to halve the deficit in the 26th minute, but was unable to add to his tally, or even get any clear-cut chances, in the second half.

Bryan Mbeumo certainly did his utmost to clinch a victory upon his return to his former side, with his darting run into the Brentford box proving too dangerous for Nathan Collins, who resorted to pulling down his ex-teammate and conceding a spot-kick.

Unfortunately for Mbeumo, who boasts a prolific penalty conversion record, he could only watch on from the edge of the area as Bruno Fernandes’ tame attempt was comfortably saved by Caoimhin Kelleher. It’s now the second penalty the skipper has missed this campaign, prompting fans to question whether a change may be needed.

Even aside from the squandered opportunity to equalise, Fernandes was nowhere near his best today.

According to StatmanDave, the midfielder recorded a 76 per cent passing accuracy, created only one chance and had just the one shot on goal.

Additionally, he completed zero successful crosses, zero successful take-ons and zero tackles, making it no surprise the analyst labelled Fernandes as ‘abysmal’ at full-time.

Next up for the under-pressure Amorim is a home encounter against newly-promoted Sunderland next Saturday at 3pm, after which club action pauses for the October international break. Then, Anfield awaits.

  1. BRUNO ISNT A 6! He isnt even an 8. Hes a 10 . If Amorim isnt going to play him as a 10 he has no place. How long has it been since Utd bossed a midfield? How many times has it been overrun? Move Mbuemo to RWB w Bruno at 10 Mainoo @ 6 for now. You dont sign a CM w legs & this is what you get

  2. This has got to stop: it ain’t working, it ain’t gonna work. All the pride, the joy of being a United fan has been sucked out. We can’t look forward to match days – just check who we’re playing and wait for the worst; which 9 times out of ten happens.
Goodbye Amorim, go back to a League where there’s a very few decent teams.
All Managers called Iraola, please take one step forward.

    1. I prefer watching the U18’s U21’s and the women’s games more than the 1st team where he doesn’t have any influence on the style of play
