Much to Manchester United fans’ delight, it now looks as though Kobbie Mainoo will be staying at the club long-term.
This comes after Mainoo had seemingly been facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford, initally due to the fact he had not agreed a new contract despite being in negotiations with United for over 12 months.
Additionally, it became clear shortly after Ruben Amorim took the reins that the coach was struggling to determine the midfielder’s best role in his newly-implemented system, having utilised him just in front of the backline, in a more attacking role and, on one occasion last season, as a No.9.
Mainoo had been linked with two of United’s top-flight rivals

Such indecision over Mainoo’s Red Devils tenure prompted Tottenham Hotspur to approach United last month to gauge the feasibility of him leaving his boyhood club. Chelsea are also long-time admirers of the 20-year-old but they are instead set to pursue a move for Alejandro Garnacho this summer.
For the United faithful, the prospect of losing their homegrown starlet so early in his senior career was an unthinkable one.
He took the Premier League by storm when he broke onto the scene back in 2023/2024, and, while the hype quietened last term due to a stop-start injury-ridden campaign, Mainoo remains one of the most exhilarating youngsters plying his trade in Europe at this time.
The state of play regarding Mainoo’s future
Alas, fans will breathe a sigh of relief to learn that Amorim is indeed moving forward with Mainoo poised to play a key role in his plans, with Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke claiming it’s ‘increasingly likely’ the 10-capped England international stays put.
Amorim is said to have been ‘won over’ by the player’s showings in training and on the pitch, and it’s been noted that Mainoo has ‘got his head down’ in hopes of ‘cementing himself’ in the boss’s project.

Mainoo is the most mobile midfielder we have atm. Amorim needs to take another look at Ugarte and Casemiro and take in how slow they are on the ball where as Mainoo can take the ball anywhere and make room to pass it forward.
We need replacements for both Ugarte and Casemiro.Someone who is more mobile around the pitch and can defend and attack when needed. Ederson or someone like him. But I still would not depend on Fernandes in midfield. Both midfielders must be workhorses and play together and not drift from their duties, no matter who they are.
You are correct
How do managers sometimes see things cant understand. Selling Maino ahead of Casemiro, urgate, mount who’s improving will be considered a crime decision. Yhr boy is young with all the qualities any good midfielder possesses. Amorim must give the boy game time, instil confidence. The boy is a big thing currently and future.
Nice one
100% to the point. No more ,no less.
On point
Casemiro and M Ugarte are sluggish; easily outrun by pacey and crafty midfielders.
Replacement needed there.
Am worried too as it’s only Yoro that is pacey in the defense. A very fast defensive midfielder is a shield to the back line.
Those two guys are the ones still pulling Manu backwards.
They need to replaced for a better Man United.
Agreed…as wonderfully creative as Bruno is, a player like him can only exist in a team if all the cogs and wheels around him are perfect which has not been the case with United for a long time. For all his stats and superlatives, well deserved I might add, the balance is just completely off with what’s needed to complete at the top as an overall team unit.🤷♂️
Mainoo is staying that is good but the problem is Amorim is totally incapable of guiding young talented players into becoming stars. Mainoo is in danger of becoming another target like Garnacho.
The problem with Garnacho is attitude.
All of the issues around Uniterd for the last 13 years has been with players thinking they are the only ones that matter. Amorin is showing that you need to work well for the team. He done wonders with young players at Sporting, and he is showing that a bad attitude won’t get you into the side. Just as with Rashford. Work for the team, or pack your bags!
Exactly!
Correct
Correct
Did you not see the young players he improved at Sporting ? Stop this negativity.
The partnership of Ugarte and Mainoo will not work, they should purchase another central midfielder.
Mainoo must stay
Surely We Need Experience Player To Replace Urgate And Casemiro, and We Also Need Experience Number 9 So That Our Team We Be Strength. We Also Need Experience Goalkeeper Because As For Me I Dont Believe Onana Please United Let Us Sign This Player
ManU is selling it’s players that have passion for the club for no cogent reasons. Reasons they’ll look for an expert to talk confidence into them.
I see no reason McTominay was sold, now about to sell Garnacho, and next Mainoo. This is bad!
Please, look for experts to instill believe and confidence in them, they are talented players. Selling them off is not the solution.
