Man Utd set to complete third summer signing imminently after major afternoon development

Manchester United are reportedly set for a ‘breakthrough in negotiations’ with Brentford over the signing of Bryan Mbeumo.

The Red Devils have been in hot pursuit of the Cameroonian, who registered a whopping 20 goals and eight assists in 38 Premier League appearances last term.

Ruben Amorim’s men have already reinforced their attacking quota with the addition of Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.

There’s also the additional possibility of the club bringing in Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike. However, this could be a heavily contested transfer for Premier League clubs.

If Mike McGrath’s report is on the money, it would seem the Old Trafford faithful are set to welcome another high-profile, new face to the club imminently.

After weeks of protracted talks and a frightening suggestion from Brentford sporting director Phil Giles that Mbeumo could very well stay put, it seems we now have movement on the deal.

In fact, the 25-year-old is now understood to be set to join the club before United jet off for their pre-season tour of America.

“Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo is expected to arrive at United this week before the squad goes on tour with a breakthrough in negotiations expected in the coming days,” the reporter wrote for The Telegraph.

This would see the attacker become our third summer signing after deals for Cunha and Diego Leon. And not a moment too soon, given some reporting had speculated that Bryan Mbeumo was becoming increasingly frustrated with the prolonged talks.

Man Utd fans can expect goals in the Premier League

You can really understand the frustrations of our fellow supporters when having been forced to watch our nearest rivals dominate the English top-flight for over a decade.

Meanwhile, decision-makers at Old Trafford have repeatedly failed to commit to decisions capable of restoring United to its previously lofty heights.

If anything, we’ve seemed to backtrack with a record-breakingly poor points total in the 2024/25 campaign.

That all being said, it seems like genuinely sound steps are being taken to steer Ruben Amorim’s side back in the right direction.

The signings of Cunha and Mbeumo, in particular, should go some way to solving the club’s struggles to find the back of the net.

Players Goals Assists Minutes per goal contribution
Bryan Mbeumo 20 9 123.34
Matheus Cunha 17 6 123.13
Amad Diallo 11 10 131.33
Rasmus Hojlund 10 4 237.28
Joshua Zirkzee 7 3 225.6
Alejandro Garnacho 11 10 169.90

Presuming both can carry over their form from Wolves and Brentford, respectively, United are looking at a serious improvement in output for the upcoming 2025/26 campaign.

What’s United’s next best move in the summer transfer window

There’s a serious argument to be made for finding a top-quality striker – or at the very least one we’re confident Ruben Amorim can develop into an elite category.

With the greatest of respect to Rasmus Hojlund, the 22-year-old doesn’t look like he’ll fit that particular bill at Old Trafford. 10 goals (in all competitions) in 3,322 minutes – down from 16 goals in 3,088 minutes in 2023/24 – is hardly a promising indicator.

Manchester United’s recruitment team would appear to harbour similar suspicions, given the ongoing interest in Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike.

The Frenchman, however, will cost quite the pretty penny at €100m [£86.6m]. That’s also without considering serious potential competition from the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle and Chelsea.

  12. Man United are not the power club that they were once upon time. Millions have been wasted on mediocre players not fit to play. Previous and current transfer team are a waste of time wasting hundreds of millions. We will be lucky if United end up in the top 10 never mind top 3. Ratcliffe might be a successful businessman but does not know anything about football. All he is interested is to make money simple.

  13. Besides United being rudderless in every managerial position they also have to watch out for Financial Sustainability Regulations. Barcelona have been hit by it so it is a big threat to Clubs. Ratcliffe is buying young players because he sees big money in the future. He would not be selling Garnacho or thinking of selling Maino if this was not the case? How do United have to fall before the Glazers decide to sell? Who knows, this saga is further proof that Ratcliffe is just using United as a rich man’s toy.

  14. we have ar big problem for the transfer market thay ar no working heat to the club avery time muhd g sadiq from kano state
