Manchester United fans have conceded that there will always come a point in the transfer window when the club is desperately floundering to bolster the squad by any means necessary. This time around, they just didn’t think it’d come so soon.

Yet, after being linked with the likes of Liam Delap, who snubbed the Red Devils in favour of a Chelsea move, Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike, INEOS chiefs have now landed on Dominic Calvert-Lewin as a suitable option to strengthen the frontline at Old Trafford.

TNT Sports claims the frontman is ‘on Ruben Amorim’s list’ as he prepares for his first full campaign as United boss. As things stand, he’ll be navigating 2025/2026 with a seriously depleted attacking contingent after Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho all informed the board of their desire to leave this summer.

In the meantime, United are yet to open negotiations with Calvert-Lewin, who became a free agent at the end of June after nine years at Everton.

He departed Goodison Park with 273 appearances to his name, having scored 71 goals and contributed 22 assists. 57 goals and 18 assists were registered in the 239 Premier League appearances he made.

The 28-year-old’s most prolific top-flight campaign came in 2020/2021 when he notched 16 goals in 33 outings. However, Calvert-Lewin’s best return in the last four seasons is only seven goals in 2023/2024.

Season Appearances Goals Assists
24/25 26 3 2
23/24 32 7 2
22/23 17 2 1
21/22 17 5 2

Calvert-Lewin would be a risky addition for Amorim

Along with his fluctuating form, the 11-capped England international is renowned for being one of the most injury-prone players to have in a squad. According to Transfermarkt, Calvert-Lewin has missed a whopping 73 games for Everton through injury or fitness issues, making him an unreliable option to have to depend upon throughout the course of the term.

It’s reported he earned around £100,000 per week prior to his Toffees departure.

  1. More drivel and Goldbridge going on about Bruno’s sale and reports of 3 signings Rashford being sold and a total of 9 transfers being done this week another injury prone player from Chelsea when we’ve only got one through the door since the 2 windows opened while others have made several it feels a bit like Deja vu of previous poor windows

  2. Same errors repeatedly committed, yet they want to compete with Chelsea, Liverpool, man city and arsenal. Ineos are jokers.

  3. Ridiculous, we are reverting back to the same stupid mistakes we’ve made in the past.
Calvert Lewin is not United material, and isn’t what the fans want. Luiz is another who is not good enough, and Ineos have promised to bing in players who are in their early or mid twenties.
Every season we get promises that are not achieved because of chasing a dead horse, and losing out on other players.
Jonathan David on a Free and not even mentioned, because so much time spent waiting for Gyokeres to make up his mind. We should just pay the extra few million and get Mbeumo over the line, instead of dragging this saga on until the end of transfer window and then paying even more. Add the monies onto players we sell in the future, same as other clubs do.
But for the fans sake, get more players in quickly. We still need a Striker, Midfielder, Goalkeeper, and possibly a CB or RWB.
