‘Years of failures…’: Ex-Red makes bizarre case for Bryan Mbeumo to snub United interest and join Spurs

As it stands, Manchester United are favourites to sign sought-after Brentford talisman Bryan Mbeumo, but that’s not to say there won’t be any spanners thrown into the works.

It was revealed a fortnight ago that the attacker had given priority to the Red Devils despite receiving interest from three Champions League-qualified clubs in the form of Arsenal, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

However, the latter’s imminent managerial change has cast United’s seamless run at signing Mbeumo into doubt, as it could allow the player to reunite with the coach he’s played under for the last six years.

Could Thomas Frank convince Bryan Mbeumo to join him in his new venture?

Indeed, Thomas Frank has been chosen to succeed Ange Postecoglou following the Australian’s controversial sacking, with the Bees boss already giving his green light to the move. As a result, he will pull the curtains on his six-year tenure at the Gtech Community Stadium, having enjoyed an illustrious career that saw Brentford become a Premier League club for the first-ever time thanks to his guidance in 2021.

They’ve far from struggled in the top-flight since then, either. Frank has overseen finishes in 13th place, ninth, 16th and 10th in the four campaigns he’s been at the helm. Now, he faces an entirely new challenge with Tottenham Hotspur on the back of their 17th-placed finish.

Whether Mbeumo could be tempted to change his mind based on Frank’s move remains to be seen, but there is one thing we know for sure: he won’t be taking career advice from Ben Foster of all people.

Foster’s odd case for Mbeumo rejecting United

Bizarrely, the former Red has encouraged Mbeumo to snub the 20-time champions and sign for Spurs instead, insisting he has less chance of ‘failing’ in a red shirt than with the ever-successful London club…

“If you want to be part of something that’s going to make you probably a better footballer and work hard, be part of a team, then go to Spurs with Thomas Frank,” said the retired goalkeeper.

“If you are happy picking up your wages knowing that there’s going to be an awful lot more pressure, a lot more eyes on you, judgment, but with their record in the last couple of years of failures, then go to Manchester United.”

  1. I stopped paying attention to Ben Foster when he became a regular addition to The United Stand – the fan channel that’s mostly twatwaffle – and it looks like I was right to do so.

  2. Poor Ben! Not making it at United has really impacted him – And not in a good way. Poor sight!

  3. You utter such a statement I think is a lack of professionalism to Ben foster, and that Ben wasn’t instrumental during his time of his career, he was a failure too. You don’t need to discourage people but to encourage them. Really don’t like Ben foster as for me, totally tractor to Manchester united

  4. Ben is talking trash, what has been Spurs achieved in the last 10 years? Even mbuemo knows this

  5. Foster was a failure while in Man united. What do you expect from him? I m not surprise. Check Man united achievements and global recognition in just ten years and of spurs. Bryan knows that and what he can achieve in Man united.
