After months of speculation, Manchester United have reportedly launched talks with Sporting CP bomber Viktor Gyokeres.
The striker has been linked with a move to the Red Devils ever since Ruben Amorim set foot at Carrington back in November.
These links shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone. After all, United have been crying out for a devastating centre-back, especially amidst Rasmus Hojlund’s struggles, and the Swede was absolutely terrific during his time under Amorim.
And yet, the Premier League giants turned their attention towards other targets, the likes of Liam Delap and Victor Osimhen.
Man United make initial contact with Viktor Gyokeres
Nevertheless, Man Utd have seemingly rekindled their interest in Gyokeres over the past few days, and Sky Sports journalists Dharmesh Sheth and Lyall Thomas reveal that the two parties have finally started negotiating.
“Manchester United have made an initial approach for Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres through intermediaries, Sky Sports News has been told,” reveals the source.
“United are exploring the conditions of a potential deal. Head coach Ruben Amorim is a big admirer of Gyokeres, having managed him at Sporting.”
Gyokeres has been superb this term, as Amorim’s mid-season exit hardly affected his form. The centre-forward, who has been hailed as ‘unstoppable’, netted 54 goals in 52 appearances.
United want Gyokeres regardless of Hojlund’s fate
The same report adds that United are determined to land a new striker, whether Hojlund stays at Old Trafford or ends up sealing a transfer (he’s being heavily linked with Serie A clubs, especially Inter Milan).
“United are in the market for a striker regardless of Rasmus Hjolund’s future. The Danish international said he is not considering leaving the club and will fight for his place next season. United are looking at a number of players in that position.”
That being said, Hojlund’s exit would certainly provide a financial boost for United who are operating on a limited budget due to the lack of Champions League football.
This sale would cover a large part of Gyokeres’ transfer fee. The Swede should be available for circa £60 million thanks to a gentlman’s agreement with Sporting who vowed to let him leave this summer.
After ETH’s spending spree on his old players, It’s left me a bit worried about history repeating itself. I’m thinking that Osimhen would be a better bet. With regards to Hojland, I really feel for the lad. With better service, I think we’ll see a different player.
Hojlund is all hype he has had so many opportunities just not good enough forvthe premier league
Man utd should put a 65 million deal in gyokeres now and get the deal done sooner than later
Gyokores is less of a risk because he’s played in England before he’s scored in Europe a couple against City when Sporting hammered them he’s a lot less of a risk
Which better player. Does he look like a striker. He’s unproven and was still given the opportunity. He fail, he can’t lead united.
See, gyokeres will not fail like ETH players. That guy keep banging goals even when Amorin left. He’s not a fluke. He’s a striker.
ETH bought dutch players now we have Amorim filling the place with Portuguese players what about our British players in MU Academy the MU club is a laughing stock.
We neeeeeeeeeed a keeper fast
Gyokeres is a proven goal scorer and that is what man utd need for now, please let the club do anything possible to get him to old Trafford, he will change things there.
Pls get Victor gyokeres for us as soon as possible and forget about hojlund and if he refuse to go then he should be given Jose Mourinho treatment by sending him to under 18 to train with and banish him from the senior team we the fans we don’t need him any longer enough is enough a striker with 4 goals in EPL in a season what shame on him.
