Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur fans are anxiously awaiting Wednesday’s high-stakes Europa League final.

The all-English contest will take place at San Mames Stadium in Bilbao, where the Red Devils have already enjoyed victory on one occasion this season following a 3-0 first-leg semi-final win over Athletic Club at the start of May.

United secured their spot in the final with a 7-1 aggregate win against the Basque outfit. Spurs, meanwhile, defeated Bodø/Glimt 5-1 after their second leg triumph in Norway.

Both sides have endured equally disastrous Premier League campaigns and, as a result, currently occupy the two spots above the relegation zone. You can only question how their situations may have looked had the three promoted sides had more luck upon their return to the top flight. If you want to take a punt on how the table will look throughout 2025/2026, Betmaster is a great sportsbook for football fans.

In terms of the personnel Ange Potecoglou and Ruben Amorim are set to be working with, the former has been dealt three substantial blows in the build up to the tie.

Spurs will be without James Maddison, who sustained an ankle injury in the first leg of their semi-final, as well as young star Lucas Bergvall, who picked up an ankle complaint in training.

To make matters worse, the club confirmed exactly a week before the final that influential midfielder Dejan Kulusevski had played his final game of 2024/2025. The Swede has undergone knee surgery and will be ‘out for a few months’, according to Postecoglou.

The latest from United’s training ground

At Old Trafford, Amorim has had to make do without Lisandro Martinez since February. He welcomed Toby Collyer and Jonny Evans back to training on May 14, but Ayden Heaven, Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt were absent.

Diogo Dalot completed some individual work away from his teammates, while Leny Yoro was spotted heading to the gym at Carrington to ‘do his own fitness work’.

The Frenchman was forced off in the defeat to West Ham at Old Trafford, prompting fears he’d have to oversee a spell on the sidelines. However, there is hope he could feature in some form, which would come as a substantial boost to the manager.

Still, perhaps the greatest positive for Amorim in recent weeks is that Amad returned from his setback well ahead of schedule. He, along with the likes of Bruno Fernandes, could prove to be real difference-makers when locking horns with the London outfit.
