Journalist reveals how INEOS could put an end to Ruben Amorim ‘insanity’

While a host of pundits have been urging Ruben Amorim to drop his tactical formation, only INEOS can prompt the Manchester United boss to make such a drastic change.

Over the past couple of years, the falling Premier League giants have been spending cash in abundance on the transfer market with the aim of presenting Erik ten Hag with a squad capable of thriving in a 4-2-3-1 system.

While these efforts proved futile in the end with the Dutchman dismissed in October, the current squad is equally struggling to interpret Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system.

Therefore, many pundits have already invited the Portuguese manager to cast this formation aside, at least temporarily, since he doesn’t have the right weapons at his disposal. Nevertheless, this popular advice fell on deaf ears, with the Man Utd boss refusing to implement any noticeable changes despite the worrying results.

Arsenal legend Paul Merson went on to describe the 40-year-old’s stubbornness as ‘insanity’.

“I honestly don’t know what Amorim is trying to do. It’s insanity because it’s not working at all. Manchester United have been all over the place under him and need to come back to a 4-3-3 and try to become solid.”

But as Manchester Evening News journalist Steven Railston explains, INEOS are the only ones capable of implementing a change in this regard, albeit in an indirect fashion.

Will INEOS prompt Ruben Amorim to change his formation?

The source doesn’t expect the club’s managing co-owners to explicitly demand a tactical overhaul. However, their stance would play a major role on this front.

As Railston puts it, Amorim could sense some urgency if INEOS were to ask him to salvage the campaign, suggesting his future could well depend on the club’s results between now and the end of the season. In this case, he could opt for a more pragmatic approach.

On the contrary, if the owners are willing to completely drop the ball on the current campaign, the young tactician would be happy to continue his experiment until the end of the season.

  1. The only way to change anything at united is to change the owners to that end we the fans must hit them were it hurts we most stop buying merchandise and anything to do with the sponsorship and me must also make our feelings know at each and every game and continue to do that from the very first minute to the the very last minute then maybe when they are feeling it in their pockets and at every game they might just say enough is enough

  2. It is not the issue with formation anymore. Man Utd played 4-3-3 with Tag Hag earlier and it was a nightmare and may be just a little better off than now. What we need to look at is the player’s mentality. There should be a team of sports psychologists at United but are they doing a good enough job? Are they working closely with Amorim enough to work out the team’s poor attitude in matches? Too much pressure to perform well? Why are players doing better after leaving United? What are the differences playing in those teams instead?

Honestly, at this stage it is a lost cause especially if we lose in the Europa League or FA Cup. Why not try to play more of the academy players then? They are hungrier, more willing to run and do everything they can to impress. Promote Obi, Kone, Harrison to name a few and let selected seniors who cares about United to play and lead them eg. Bruno, Ugarte and Maguire. I rather lose with kids than seeing how pathetically we are playing every week with our seniors.

  3. We thought the Glazers and Woodward were bad enough now it seems Ineos and Amorin are trying to compete with them Amorin is the Margaret Thatcher of football

  4. The only way United can survive is get rid of Ineos & Amorim coz they both don’t know what they r doing .they r ruining this once mighty club.

  5. Amorim and his formation ain’t a problem. Getting rid of players who don’t care about the team would be a gud idea. Player’s mentality isn’t a problem caz we have seen them play in such an awful way, under ten hag and it is still the same with Amorim, so I rather lose with the academy graduates the likes of Obi, than players who cost us a lot of money.
