INEOS are trying to juggle Manchester United’s finances, with new head coach Ruben Amorim set to be given a smaller budget to work with next summer than what was granted to Erik ten Hag.
The bigger picture here is that United, now led by INEOS, are trying to improve its recruitment strategy. In previous years, United have overspent on the wrong players, with the manager in question usually facing the consequences.
Ten Hag was the latest manager to face the axe at Old Trafford as INEOS decided to appoint their own man, after quickly identifying Amorim as their prime target. The sacking came after a terrible start to the season, in which he left United in the bottom half of the table and without a single win in three Europa League matches.
The former Ajax manager spent more than £600m at United, which will affect how much the club spends in future transfer windows – and so it should! We don’t want another Antony for £85m+.
According to The Telegraph, Amorim is expected to work with a smaller budget next summer. This is another example of the problems created by the Glazer family. It’s a mess INEOS are trying to clean up.
Ruben Amorim needs to get results
United were expected to improve this season after finishing eighth in the Premier League last term, with INEOS spending big to strengthen the squad in the summer. They brought in stars like Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Zirkzee and Manuel Ugarte.
Amorim will be tasked with working with what Ten Hag had, but he must get better results. That is what he has been hired to do after leaving Sporting.
The Reds can still sign top players with a restricted budget. They just need to choose their targets more wisely and ensure the players fit the manager’s system.
Under Ten Hag, we never got to see the system he implement at Ajax. Amorim will hope he can change that.
So the new guy can take all the praise for my hard work?
This is so unfair, I had a plan.
