Manchester United youngster Sekou Kone made his first start for the club at U21 level tonight.
It didn’t quite go to plan as the midfielder came off before half-time after suffering an ankle injury.
After joining United on transfer deadline day, fans have had to wait to see the Mal U17 international in action, but tonight he was given the nod from the start against Huddersfield in the EFL Trophy.
Kone has been gradually integrated into the academy, with a plan to eventually introduce him to the first team. He has been given a couple of substitute appearances up until now but will have to wait longer before he can complete 90 minutes in a United shirt.
The Mali youngster hobbled off the pitch after 42 minutes, with United 1-0 down.
He was subjected to a tough challenge, therefore, it was an impact injury rather than a muscle issue.

Kone had picked up a yellow card just minutes before he was forced off.
Sekou Kone adapting to the English game
Right now, it’s a matter of building experience in the English game. Kone was one of the youngest players on the pitch tonight as he’s eligible for the U18s.
He displayed his ability to protect the back four in midfield with his impressive defensive traits.
Hopefully, the injury isn’t serious and he can return to action soon.
There are high hopes for Kone and it’s only a matter of time before we know if United’s new head coach Ruben Amorim is a fan of the youngster.
It was well documented that Erik ten Hag was an admirer of Kone.
Kone will get his chance to impress Amorim over the coming months and beyond.
