Andre Onana made a heroic double save to deny Fenerbahce in the first half tonight.

Manchester United were unable to come away from Turkey with three points after throwing away a lead yet again in the Europa League.

Fenerbahce coach Jose Mourinho was sent off as his side drew 1-1 with his former club United on Thursday night after Christian Eriksen’s goal was cancelled out by Youssef En-Nesyri.

Joshua Zirkzee found Eriksen with a short pass and the Danish midfielder put United ahead in the 15th minute.

United keeper Andre Onana produced a stunning double save just before the break to deny Fenerbahce.

However, Onana couldn’t prevent En-Neysyri four minutes into the second half as he headed home a cross from Allan Saint-Maximin.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the match, Onana expressed his disappointment at the result and urged his players to take responsibility and bounce back from it.

“It is a big disappointment for me and the fans, for the club, as a Manchester United player you have an obligation to try to win. It is what we tried to do today, but we also have to recognise it is a tough place to win.

“We didn’t win, but at least we didn’t lose, Not happy of course, but we move on, take responsibility and go again.

“We had more control than them in the second half and more chances. We conceded an early goal in the second half, we had to show character and I think that is what we did. We didn’t win but I thought we were better than them.”

The Cameroon international was asked about his double save after the match.

“The saves are not important, the most important thing is the victory for the team. It is nice if I make those kinds of saves and the team wins. It is a big disappointment.”

It’s something he sees as being less important because it didn’t contribute to a win.

However, even in hindsight, it’s significant because it saved us from a potential defeat.

Jose Mourinho is still in disbelief that the ball didn’t hit the back of the net for Onana’s double save.
