Manchester United reportedly held an interest in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero this summer.
It was clear that in the summer transfer window, the Red Devils wanted to invest in the defensive area in Erik ten Hag’s squad.
The new-look football structure under Ineos was keen on bringing in Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite but was not able to meet Everton’s asking price.
The Red Devils completed the signing of two centre-backs in the window with Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt arriving at Old Trafford.
Manchester United targetted Tottenham Hotspur star Cristian Romero
Manchester United reportedly looked at the prospect of singing Cristian Romero in the summer.
Romero had previously been linked to a move to Old Trafford before he made the move to North London in 2021.
The Red Devils were not the only club interested in the Argentine’s services, according to journalist Gaston Edul other top clubs had also enquired.
Taking to X, Gaston Edul said: “Cristian Romero had the interest of three teams in this transfer market: Manchester United, PSG and Real Madrid. Tottenham responded that they would not sell him. He is essential for Postecoglou.
“They did not even put a price on him. He will have offers again in the next transfer market when Romero only has two years left on his contract.”
