Video: Wayne Rooney tells mortifying Micah Richards story

It doesn’t surprise me when I hear stories about Wayne Rooney being one of the funniest members of a dressing room or that he was a prankster. Manchester United’s all-time top goalscorer can also leave a studio in stitches with his storytelling.

Rooney, recently appointed Plymouth manager, was joined in the studio by Micah Richards, Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker. They were all on punditry duty for the BBC’s FA Cup final coverage when he shared a hilariously memorable moment.

The former United and England striker explained how he once bumped into Richards celebrating his 50th Premier League appearance at Wing’s popular Chinese restaurant in Manchester.

Wing’s became even more popular after former United manager Louis van Gaal made it his restaurant of choice whilst living in the city.

While Rooney was having a quiet meal with his family, Richards arrived with an entourage of 20 friends to celebrate his Premier League milestone of 50 appearances.

Rooney thought it was amusingly small-time.

“I’d actually seen Micah in Wing’s Chinese restaurant, I was in there with family, quiet meal,” Rooney said.

“Micah comes in with about 20 of his guys, walks in, and they’re celebrating… I was thinking, ‘What are they celebrating?’

“It was Micah had made his 50th Premier League appearance.”

The story left the studio in stitches, before Richards said: “It’s the Premier League, it’s a big thing. It was a big thing for me Wayne. Why did you have to say that?”
