Three observations as Manchester United draw 2-2 at Bournemouth – Casemiro is finished

Manchester United had to battle hard for a 2-2 draw at the Vitality Stadium.

After a difficult first half against Bournemouth, United faced yet another uphill climb to take something from today’s game. The overall performance lacked quality and we missed another opportunity to make ground on teams competing for the Champions League spots.

United can have nobody but themselves to blame for the position we are in. Several players were way below their best levels again as Erik ten Hag’s side went in 2-1 down at the break. A slightly better performance followed after the break as Bruno Fernandes completed a brace from the penalty spot.

The result leaves Ten Hag’s side seventh in the Premier League standings. Here are our three takes from the game:

Bournemouth wanted it more

I think this is the worst complaint you can have about a United team, but we’ve seen the opposition want it more than us on far too many occasions. They didn’t get the three points but we gave them enough chances to achieve that.

When is this team – as a unit – going to show that they really care? They are not showing enough of an appetite and it’s insulting to watch on a regular basis.

Casemiro is finished

The Brazilian had another stinker in midfield and his sloppiness has continued to cost us in games. Casemiro is a player who should would usually lead by example in our midfield. Instead he’s a total liability.

Easy Jamie!

Why does the fact Alejandro Garnacho is looking every bit like a 19-year-old who has started an irresponsible number of consecutive games get overlooked? I thought Jamie Redknapp’s analysis of his first half performance was lazy because it lacked any context.

“Garnacho’s been poor in that first half, he kept giving the ball away. He looked lethargic and poor,” Redknapp said, as quoted by the Daily Mail. “I understand that one. But the biggest problem is the amount of time they get the ball turned over, getting pressed in their first half and Bournemouth are just running at their back four at will and getting shots away.

“That must be the biggest worry for Ten Hag. If you’re going to keep letting teams have shots at goal, you’re going to continue to concede goals.”

Garnacho was replaced by Amad Diallo at half time.
